The substation contains 2 transformers totaling 389 MW and is located in the eastern part of the Irish Sea on 19 meters depth.
The wind farm of 67 km2 will consist of 108 wind turbines each generating 3.6 MW. The energy generated from these is sent onshore to the Heysham transformer platform, from where it is sent further into the British electricity grid to consumers.
The topside itself weighs 1520 tons and the jacket has a weight of 1180 tons. The substation is built in Belgium.
The installation of the turbines and substation began in 2013 and the entire wind farm is expected to be completed for commissioning in 2014.
